Four-star Indianapolis Park Tudor wing Trevon Bluiett, a top candidate for Indiana Mr. Basketball honors in 2014, committed to UCLA over the weekend after an official visit.

Bluiett, who at 6 feet 5 is one of the nation’s best shooters and volume scorers, chose the Bruins over Arizona, Butler, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue and Xavier. IU was not thought to be recruiting Bluiett heavily recently.

Bluiett, who averaged 27.8 points and nine rebounds last season, became a top target of the Bruins after they hired Steve Alford as head coach and Ed Schilling, Bluiett’s former coach at Park Tudor, as an assistant.

“I’ve been playing for or training with (Schilling) since the sixth grade,” Bluiett told the Indianapolis Star. “So it does make a difference. I definitely feel comfortable with him, so it helps with him being out there. I felt like distance doesn’t matter because I feel like I have a family out there.”

Ballard High School point guard Quentin Snider, a former University of Louisville commitment, also officially visited UCLA over the weekend, and Bluiett told the Star he wants Snider and five-star Houston wing Justise Winslow to join him in college.

Bluiett’s father, Reynardo, told UCLA’s Rivals affiliate, BruinSportsReport.com, also said his son hopes to play with Snider at UCLA (subscription link).

“It will be great,” Reynardo Bluiett, who also coaches his son’s AAU team, told the Rivals site. “Quentin’s a great player. He comes from a great family and I just know what he’s made of. It would be great to have him come out and play.”
